In the absence of a progress report, perhaps you have been wondering about the South Webster Habitat project. We must report there has been no progress since your last report.

Habitat families partner with Habitat and the community to build their
home. The family is chosen based on this ability to partner, an ability to pay the low monthly mortgage, and need. The family chosen for S. Webster was unable to continue in the process due to unforeseen circumstances.

The Family Selection Committee has reopened the files of the families who first made application for the house. These families will be blindly submitted by the committee to the Habitat board next month. Another family can then be selected for the home. Habitat needs to give the family time to earn their "sweat equity" working on their house. Work was stopped for this reason.

We are grateful for a strong and dedicated board, as well as clear Habitat policy that has guided the process. We are confident a qualifying family will be selected. Work will begin again after the selection of the family.

We look forward to again
announcing the future work schedule for this project.

Also in 2008, Habitat will begin work in Portsmouth at the corner of 6th and Adams. Habitat recently acquired a lot on Grandview in the city. If you would be aware of other property in the city or the county suitable for a Habitat home, please let us know and we will forward this info to the Site Selection Committee.

The cold weather is soon behind us. It is time to get building again!
